EERSFAN.com was in established in 2002 as a place where members of WVSPORTS.COM could obtain information about the weekly tailgates. It quickly grew to include game day pictures, tailgate menus, WVU schedules, and the game day essentials. At the end of the 2002 season, EERSFAN.COM in conjunction with WVSPORTS.COM, sponsored a successful bus trip to the Continental Tire Bowl that was followed in 2003 by a bus trip to the Gator Bowl. Now, EERSFAN.COM sponsors trips to various games and that information will also be found on this site.

The Mountaineer Message Board tailgates started in the 2002 season. The first Tailgate was the August 31’st game against The University of Tennessee –Chattanooga. The next home game against East Carolina University, no one volunteered to host the tailgates, therefore, none existed. My wife, decided that is was a venture that we both would enjoy. We got in touch with the owner and publisher of WVSPORTS.COM and on October 5’th , 2002 the first official tailgates began. That first tailgate had approximately 30 guests. It quickly grew into a game day tradition, attracting nearly 300 rabid Mountaineer football fans. Easily the largest tailgate to date was the November 15’th , 2003 game against the University of Pittsburgh when nearly 400 people attended the affair. People from Mexico, Oregon, Florida, Maine and beyond have made the pre-game festivities a weekly event. It has grown to such a peak that additional corporate sponsors and friends had to be sought.

Now, more people have become involved with the set-up and planning of the tailgates. Someone else joined the tailgate staff in the fall of 2003 and we have different volunteers that offer much needed help. Somebody else has taken over the reigns of the website in 2005.
